Sphinx, in limestone, originally coloured (traces of pigment visible). Underneath centre of figure is a double head of Bes. Sacred animals are sculptured on forelegs, head and shoulders.
Old label "SPINDLE USE D BY LENGUA INDIANS. CHACO, PARAGUAY". With gourd as whorl for spindle for spinning wool, in wood. Presented by Dr. J.W. Lindsay, Paraguay, 1909. There are some remains of wool on the spindle.
