Red velvet cape/cloak, bound with gold-coloured cloth and mounted with silver studs and ornaments, and with floral pattern in green and gold woven in. Given to J L Baird by Emperor Menelik II of Abyssinia (1844-1913).
"This is one of a pair of carved wooden figures from the NW coast of North America, probably made in the mid-19th century. They may have been carved for a collector or trader, but they apparently are accurate depictions of native people of the timeā¦
