Sculpture: an abstract bronze, ovoid sculpture resembling the shell of an animal like a crustacean or wood louse.

Case (2007)

Steve Dilworth (born 1949, Yorkshire)

The organic form of ‘Case’ resembles a butterfly's pupa or the husk of a pine cone, suggesting ideas of protection, growth and maturation. It is one of a series of carapace forms, all drawn from the natural history of the Isle of Harris where he has lived since 1983, with the earliest versions carved in stone, the later versions in bronze. Dilworth said,

“I enjoyed seeing people’s hands run over the surface as they walked by and would hope, in time, that the patina would slowly evolve. It is a beginning, suggesting potential and promise.”
