Seal matrix. A bronze disc with a handle on the back. Depressed into the front is a design of a coat of arms split in half with three dog heads and a diagonal band on one side and a book on the other, with a bishop's hat above it. Around the edge is the inscription SIGILLVM COMMUNE GEORGII EPISCOPI ABERDONEN.

Gorget. A large, gold crescent shaped plate decorated with leaves around the edges. It has a silver stamp with knotwork and a crown surrounded by cannons, axes and swords.

Breast Plate
Oval breast-plate in gilded brass, 'worn on the sword belt of an officer in the Royal Aberdeen Volunteers (1794-1802)' (Reid 1912).

Tinder pistol. A small pistol like device with a wooden handle. A brass, steel and flint mechanism is on the end, operated by a trigger, and there is also a candle holder on the side.
Flint-lock tinder pistol, in brass, combined with a brass rectangular container for tinder and a small cup for holding a candle. Lock is in steel. Used in making fire.
Tinder box. A copper box with two lid panels. In one half is a candle holder which has a candle in it. Next to the box are two buckle shaped pieces of metal and a piece of flint.
Combined tinder-box and candlestick, in copper, with three flints and one strikelight.
Spurs. A pair of U shaped steel rods with a leather belt between the ends and a prong with a spiked wheel protruding from the middle.
Pair of spurs, made from steel, 'best hard' inscribed inside the heel, with leather straps. Donor unknown, but old label states: WILSON COLLECTION.

Dental key. A steel tool with a bone handle. A crooked rod of steel projects from the handle. Two hinged curved arms with toothed tips and a fastener are on the end.
Dental key, later 19th century, used to extract teeth. Made of iron with an ivory handle. It has four hooks or heads each fitted on to the key by a screwed sleeve, and each is designed to fit around a different size and type of tooth.

Set of scales, with brass pans and brass weights, in a wooden box. Used by Rev Alexander John Forsyth for weighing the ingredients used to make a detonating powder in 1805-6. Forsyth invented the percussion lock for fire arms, and his experiments…

Made from horn, cork stopper at one end, tiny carved animal head with eyes, nose and ears in white at other end.
