Description

Triangular, black amulet, decorated with embroidery, beads and gold lace in circles and loops, with coloured rope: green, pink, yellow, orange, purple and brown. Used against illness by Catholics, from Shala, North-East Albania. Note in donor file: 'M.M.H. tried to unpick the case to read the actual writing inside, but could not. N.B. it is generally believed among Mohammedans that if an amulet is read by an outsider, it loses its effieciency. Here the Catholics seem to think the same.'
