[the Europeans] They began to be a part of our lives, as did the goods that they marketed to us. And that included beautiful coloured yarns, beautiful brightly coloured wool, Stroud cloth, beautiful silk ribbon and above all, little round pieces of glass. We absolutely fell in love with beads and began to create art that was a wonderful merge of Cherokee and mound builder, even before the Cherokee in the Southeastern tribes’ traditions with what was then state of the art materials from Europe.
