So, we begin with 1492. 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. We all know about that, and that was the first exposure, serious exposure of Europeans to North America. Then, in about 1540, it was actually 1541, Hernando de Soto led an expedition that just brushed across the southern part of the Cherokee Nation in what was Tennessee and Alabama and northern Georgia. But that was just a bare touch. Then beginning in about 1715 at the end of the Yamasee war we began to trade seriously with Europeans.
