The author, Robert Farquharson of Finzean (1836 - 1819), a doctor, was MP for West Aberdeenshire and Laird of Finzean. Finzean is near Aboyne, Aberdeenshire.

The obituary describes Leatham as ‘prophet, publicist, pioneer and printer’ and points out that he had a ‘practical outlook’.
