Subject:Cross Lock.of.Horus
Description:Dating from the period after the start of Roman rule when Christianity had become established instead of the Ancient Egyptian religion. This is demonstrated by this carving which incorporates Christian and Ancient Egyptian symbolism. The cross is enclosed by a laurel crown and has attached to it the 'lock of Horus' which may have inspired the Christian monogram ' XP' for the first two letters of 'Christ' in Greek. The word 'EULOGIA' inscribed on the stone in Greek letters means ' in praise of the dead'. Coptic. [show more]
