Description

Silver coin, penny - 2nd issue. Obv: Head of king (Alexander III) to left, crowned; before, sceptre. Rev: Long cross pattee with a mullet in each quarter (a 'mullet' is a star with a hole in centre). Three of the mullets have six points and one mullet has five points - the number of points on the mullets add up to 23, denoting that the coin was struck in Aberdeen (Coincraft's Coin Catalogue 1999, p52).
