Description

1/2 portrait of Prince George of Denmark, in oval surround, facing, wearing armour and red robe trimmed with ermine, green sash over left shoulder, white scarf at throat, shoulder length grey hair and short clipped moustache. Knights notes: ' 5th January minute Presented by Frederick Thomas Moxon esq. London on learning that the college had its fellow in Queen Anne'. Reputedly copied by Anne Forbes after an original by Godfrey Kneller.
'Frederick Thomas Maxon, London, presenting a portrait of Prince George of Denmark, 25 December 1820, Portrait' MSM 387/12/1/22. This portrait was included in the list of paintings in the Store at Marischal College compiled by George Davidson on 9th March 1958. Recorded as " Fancy Portrait, 18th Century".
