Oil painting, bust portrait, near profile L, of William Elphinstone (Bishop of Aberdeen from 1488-1514), wearing the Bishop's regalia and vestments, his hands clasped in prayer, rings on both hands. The Elphinstone coat of arms and motto 'Non confunidar' can be seen in the window and a landscape of ships on a river through a window on his right, probably representing the Aberdeen coast. Painted in oil on a wooden panel, possibly by a Flemish painter in about 1505. It may be part of an altarpiece intended for the chapel at King's College at its foundation.
