Description
Dispatch box of Field-Marshall James Francis Edward Keith (1696-1758), younger brother of George, 10th and last Earl Marischal. It is made of wood with brass bindings, handles and clasp. The rosewood veneer on the front and lid is laid to give a flower-like pattern, exploiting the wood's beautiful grain. The box has three secret recesses and two hidden screws to anchor it. Presented in 1958 by Miss Helen Keith-Douglas (a descendant of Field-Marshal Keith).
