Stone axe Olmec style, Guerrero, Mexico, 1500 B.C.-A.D.300 The polished surface of this porphyry axe blade is engraved, in fine lines, with a divine figure wearing a jaguar mask and holding a club or burning torch. The Olmex style spread from its heartland in southern Veracruz to all parts of Mexico during the first millenium B.C.
