Tombstone (imperfect) in white stone with inscription and turban-like top. This is probably one of the 'Two Tombstones of white marble from Turkish Burying Grounds' presented by Capt James Brebner, Aberdeen, 1805 mentioned in Knight, W, 1840, (manuscript MS M106). Also mentioned in two printed catalogues - Michie 1887 (item C2, p11, 'TURKISH TOMB-STONE, surmounted by turban') and Reid 1912 (item 2, p207, 'Tombstone ... in sandstone, with Arabic inscription' ). Inscription: in Arabic: Here lies the pilgrim Ali l'il Sudan, who died in the year of the Hejira, 98, and was transferred to the mercy of God, the most merciful Also old label hand-written in white ink: Cat 2 Asia
