Title

Bead. A small, fat ring shaped bead made of greenish grey glass, with scratches and scuffs.

Identifier

ABDUA:15519

Description

Shape: flat, circular. Colour: blue green. Type: Plain annular bead (Guido 1978). From a 'stone circle' at Castlehill, Kintore. Ralston & Inglis (1984): 'The 'Castle Hill' was destroyed during the construction of the railway in mid-Victorian times. It is conceivable that the 'Hill' was originally a pre-historic cairn. More pertinently, two sculptured stones, now in the National Museum of Antiquities in Edinburgh were removed from a burnt layer which contained some bone material. These are decorated with a number of symbols in Class I style. It is thus possible that the mound continued to be used for ritual or burial during the Pictish period.'
