Description

Double-barrelled muzzle-loading shot-gun. Aberdeen-made, 30' double-barrelled percussion, 12 bore sporting gun. Twist barrel, platinum vents, marked 'Robert Wilson, Aberdeen' on the barrels and 'R. Wilson' on the lock plate. Finely engraved with figures of 'pheasants' on the lock plates, decorative engravings in the customary places, fine and beautiful work either for general craftsmanship or details. Unfortunately due to heavy corrosion by rust and other substances the barrels and other steel parts are heavily pitted and damaged, one hammer 'nose' (left hammer) broken. Fine wood stock with chequered grip and 'gold' escutchion. Original brass-mounted ram rod in wood. Overall length: 3' 11' Locks in good working order. (Even so damaged, this sporting gun is with interest concerning the history of the local production of sporting guns in Aberdeen).
