An account of the resource
Reliquary, in the form of a model of a chorten (Mchordten) in brass and set with precious stones, with small figures of the seated Buddha facing the four directions. Collected during the Lhasa Expedition 1903/4. According to correspondence (includes a sketch) dated 19.2.32 to Professor Reid from Nora Griffith (Macdonald's sister): 'Chortens are 'solid domed funeral monuments sometimes enshrining the relics of departed saints' (Col. Waddell). Small copies of these chortens are made such as you have. They represent 'the five elements into which bodies are resolved on death.''
