After this come a number of small Vases, plain black, sometimes also with slight ornamentation in raised white or in lines incised down to the ground colour of clay: in one case, both styles are used together. Such ware is late; and is found in Tanagra tombs along with the finest terracottas, i.e., 330-270 B.C.

Kylix (wide shallow cup) with open handles, red figured in glazed red clay. Shows on inside youth with head bound with long fillet running. Shows on outside, (1) symposium - three bearded men reclining on cushions, one holding phiale, one kylix, and one skyphos, youth beside them playing double flute, beneath them a negro with vessel, on each side of him, a pair of boots, on the left small krater (?) and sword, and (2) on the other side a similar scene - symposium - four bearded men reclining on Type B cup (continuous curve)cushions, two men in middle have drinking vessels, the one on right, skyphos, the left a kylix. Beneath kylix, table, and small crater and pair of shoes on right and left.

Inside. Youth, head bound with long fillet. Outside.(I) Symposium. Three bearded men reclining, holding kylix, two-handled cup which could not stand unless held by a hand, and (*greek letters). Beneath them stand negro servant, and two pair boots, small krater (?), sword. Cushions on which the men lean are striped. Youth plays double flute. (2) Similar scene: four bearded men reclining. One holds kylix, one kantharos. Beneath, two pair small shoes like women's; krater; table; kylix. Peculiar object hangs up at each side of kylix in centre of scene. * Hand written punctuation.

Zeitung, 1878-79). * Hand written zig zig (like bolt of lightning) The presence of H as the spiritus asper, the archaic form of II and the three-lined figure of sigma in its three occurrences, deserve to be noted by the philological student. Inside. Satyr with high ears and a stag. Outside.(I) Ajax and Achilles playing at dice on altar of Athene: one of their shields has gorgon's head. On each side a bowman and a hoplite turned away in the act of fighting with unseen foe. Athene behind with aegis. The heroes have Boeotian, the hoplites Argolic shields. (2) A revelling scene, five youths, an old man, and a servant with oinochoe. In centre is a curious stand, on one ear of which hangs oinochoe.
