Accessory cups were made during the Bronze Age, and are found in graves with other objects, as part of the grave goods. They are small, often finely made and decorated. Some are made of amber or stone, but most are pottery. This accessory cup is bi-conical in shape with a flat base. The exterior, even the base, is decorated with a rough diamond-like pattern of fine incised lines running in opposite directions, giving a basket-like or woven impression. A single small hole has been pierced through the shoulder. The cup was found in the mid 20th century in a flat grave at Mains of Carnousie, Turriff, Aberdeenshire, with a collared urn, a skeleton of an adult, a bone toggle and some charcoal.
