Other examples of figures incorporated in suspension hooks are referred to as gos images by their missionary collectors and they perhaps served a ritual purpose. Depiction of sexual activity in Polynesian art, other than maori, is rare and the priapic aspect of this figure may refer to a mythological event or it may be a caricature.
