    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Reliquary, in the form of a model of a chorten (Mchordten) in brass and set with precious stones, with small figures of the seated Buddha facing the four directions. Collected during the Lhasa Expedition 1903/4. According to correspondence (includes a sketch) dated 19.2.32 to Professor Reid from Nora Griffith (Macdonald&#039;s sister): &#039;Chortens are &#039;solid domed funeral monuments sometimes enshrining the relics of departed saints&#039; (Col. Waddell). Small copies of these chortens are made such as you have. They represent &#039;the five elements into which bodies are resolved on death.&#039;&#039;<br />
