    <dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[These idols and the one standing outside the case are from Arjuno - a mountain ten to twelve thousand feet high. The remains of the temple are near the summit, about twenty five miles from Soerabaja The idols are Hindoo - Ganesa etc. At one time a large portion of the inhabitants of Java were Hindoos; there is still a small colony of them about twenty miles off. They go to worship on the Brom&#039;s mountain which is a vast old volcano with active fire in one corner A great plain of sand on it, at elevation of six thousand feet - totally barren. Sounds hollow under foot of a man. A few inhabitants on border of it cultivate European vegetables as turnips - cabbages etc&#039; for Soerabaja market The present inhabitants on the Arjuno are Mohammedans and cared nothing about the idols. ]]></dcterms:abstract>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Ceremonial adze with heavy shaped shaft which is elaborately carved, stone blade secured by vegetal fibre string binding. The number 11 is scratched on one end of the shaft. Original description (from Thomson&#039;s manuscript Catalogue of Banchory Museum, Item 13, p95): &#039;Used by natives of the North Coast of New Guinea. The stone is called by the natives Goenter, or Tooth of the Mountain, being discharged by the burning mountain on the Island - and picked up by the natives on the Beach. It is also used for rings and many other purposes. From Capn. Dighton. Mr Arthur Fraser.&#039; Museum&#039;s Accessions Book 1941-1944, 1946-1963, p100: &#039;Adze used by natives of *New Guinea, heavily carved triangle.
