Inscribed &#039;1/2 GALLn&#039; (Half Gallon) - this is two Scottish pints, the equivalent of six English pints. Was used to fetch the communion wine from the tavern to the Kirk at Clola, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire during the 18th century.<br />

    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Pistols. A pair of elaborately decorated, gold coloured pistols with steel fittings. The pistols have lemon shaped butts and are decorate all over with engraved roses, interlace, scrolls and straight lines.]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Pair Scottish lemon-butted pistols or dags (right and left), in brass, with steel lock, ramrod and clip. Lock type: early snaphaunce. Butt shape: globose. Engraved decoration of roses and interlace. The pistols are thought to have been made by Archibald Gibson of Canongate, Edinburgh, who was listed as a gunmaker in 1644. They carry the inscription AG 1634.<br />

    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Targe. A circular shield, about a foot and a half wide, covered with leather and studded with brass rivets arranged in four concentric circles. Four brass bosses incised with spiralling lines are equidistant from each other near the edge, and in the centre is a large boss with a pointed blade about a foot long projecting from it.]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Targe made of wood, covered with ox leather which has been tooled with a key-like design and studded in a circular pattern with round-headed brass rivets and four larger round bosses.  The central boss is decorated with pierced hearts and a dirk screws into it, making it a weapon as well as a defence.  Museum&#039;s slip catalogue: &#039;John Roy Stuart and his Badenoch men stayed at Lowther Hall on the eve of the Clifton Fight and there John Roy lost his kit and his servant. This target was found hung high in the stables complete with a screw-in dirk in its sheath behind&#039;.  See also ABDUA: 18083.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Fir gully or knife, with an iron blade and wooden handle.  From Cults, Aberdeenshire.  The knife was used to cut &#039;fir candles&#039;, splinters of wood from pine trees.  This knife has been hafted into a home-made handle and is held in place with a thin metal ring.]]></dcterms:description>
