    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Scottish flintlock-pistol, with scroll decoration on the butt, other decoration includes hearts, diamonds &amp; geometric patterns.  This pistol is possibly an early example of the work of Thomas Cadel or Cadell, a pistol manufacturer active from around 1700.  (This latter information obtained in a personal communication from Dr. A V B Norman).   See also ABDUA 17619. &#039;Said to have belonged to have belonged to Cpt [Col.?] John Roy Stuart. Captain Stuart and his Badenoch men stayed at Lowther Hall on the eve of the Clifton fight and there lost his kit and his servant.&#039;]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Sword Basket Hilt]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Sword, double-edged, basket-hilted, constructed of round bars with large &#039;S&#039; and fleurs-de-lis in rear compartments. Thick junction plates with serrated edges. Carved upper ends of branches where they fit into grooves of pommel. Pommel of low conical form with four deep grooves bordered by incised lines, and four rings or dots punched in the bottoms of the grooves. Sharkskin covered grip which has spiral grooves for missing wire. Ferrules of iron with scalloped edges. Remains of wig. Old liner probably not original. Quillon, wrist or back-guard, has been added by riveting but is contemporary with use. On the underside is incised IA over S. The initials are for John Allan of Stirling.<br />
