    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Hand lantern, or bouat lantern, 19th century, to hold a candle.  Made of wood in a house-shape with a tin roof pierced with holes for ventilation, three glass windows and a leather carrying strap.  There is a sliding panel at the back for lighting the candle.  Bouat lanterns are a type only found in Scotland.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Bunker lamp. A small tin lamp shaped like a watering can, with a long handle that comes vertically up over the centre. The spout has a thick bundle of wick coming out of it.]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[An early type of oil lamp, made of tin, to burn naptha, a flammable oil distilled from the oil shales of central Scotland.  The inner, lidded, cylindical vessel holds the naptha and has a spout which holds the wick.  The outer shell is to catch drips, which would be dangerous if they fell on to a flammable surface.  The lamp can be hung up or placed on a flat surface.   The museum&#039;s slip catalogue notes: &#039;Used by weavers 1840 - 46&#039;. In 1642 two students from Danzig, Andrew Thomson and Peter Specht, came to study in the fourth year of the MA course at King&#039;s College, Aberdeen University and in 1643 each donated an engraved silver Danzig beaker to the University. The beaker donated by Thomson is decorated with scrolls and figures, with a dedication engraved on the front.<br />

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[From Danzig (Gdansk).     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Silver communion cup made by W Melville of Aberdeen in 1652 and given to Marischal College in 1653 by George Gordon of Strathnaver. It is engraved with a floriate design around the coat of arms of Lord Strathnaver on the front and the reverse, each one surmounted with a crest. The base is also engraved with a floriate design. Around the rim is engraved the following dedication: &#039;D Georgius Gordonius Strathnaverinae Dominus, hoc poculum in educationis et amoris tesseram Collegio Marescallano donavit, Anno 1653&#039;.<br />
