He had attended a conference in Birmingham in 1842 which adopted the six main Chartist points - even though conference refused to call itself Chartist. The main points were: universal male suffrage, the secret ballot, equal sized electoral districts, abolition of the property qualification for MPs, payment for MPs, and annual parliaments.
Adam also provides a history of the Reform movement from 1776 when a Major Cartwright had published a pamphlet pointing out the necessity for political reform.</text>

<text>This Address from the Aberdeenshire Committee of Liberal Tenant Farmers was written in 1868 as a result of the Second Reform Bill, passed in 1867. It was compiled to inform Electors about the origin and objects of the Committee.
The Committee wished to abolish the Law of Hypothec - the right of claim of a landlord over his tenant's belongings. They also wished to modify the Game Laws which prevented tenant farmers from protecting their crops against rabbits, pheasants and other creatures. They also wanted to see the Law of Entail abolished. This law was designed to preserve large estates as a whole so that they could not be sold or otherwise disposed of other than to those within the owning family.
The Address also discusses the adoption of Mr William McCombie of Tillyfour, noted farmer and cattle breeder, as the Liberal candidate for West Aberdeenshire.</text>

It suggests, particularly through the songs, that the Whigs and Radicals are not united, and that the Whig MP, Alexander Bannerman, who is given the position of the Chairman at this 'dinner', is a most ineffectual Member of Parliament. It also looks at corruption on the burgh council, but places the blame completely at the feet of the Whigs and Radicals. Each of the songs in this pamphlet has been recorded.
