    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[This paragraph, which appeared in The Aberdeen Shaver, a satirical newspaper, refers to a huge radical demonstration held at the Links, Aberdeen on 25th August 1838. The writer&#039;s main concern is satire. The Shaver was against teetotalism, and slants the bulk of this paragraph towards that. Aberdeen. The &#039;collared brother of the Herald&#039; is James Adam, editor of the Whig paper, The Aberdeen Herald. &#039;Ten pounders&#039; were those entitled to vote in general elections because the rented or owned property which had an annual value of at least £10. ]]></dcterms:description>

However, the writer is more concerned with satirizing the sentiments of the meeting and the participants themselves, than reporting what actually happened. The lower article is a cheeky description of the events. &#039;Lang Sandy&#039; is Alexander Bannerman, factory owner and Whig MP for Aberdeen. &#039;Mr Adam&#039; was James Adam, the editor of the Whig paper, The Aberdeen Herald. &#039;Ten pounders&#039; were those entitled to vote in general elections because the rented or owned property which had an annual value of at least £10.]]></dcterms:description>
