Other crosses are known from Deeside, while the pattern on the cross shaft is similar to some in the 9th century Book of Deer. The red sandstone from which they are carved comes from at least 2km away on the southern flanks of the Mounth. The line of hills that form the Mounth is one of the major barriers to movement in Scotland. The Cairn o Mount dominates the summit beside the Fettercairn to Banchory road as it has done for almost 4000 years. Marking both a routeway and a barrier, the cairn was later joined by this Christian cross.]]></dcterms:description>
