Title

Identifier

MS 3792/B0241

Description

View of the Gothic-revival fountain in a park somewhere on the Durdham Downs near Bristol, England. The foreground shows an expanse of barren, dusty roadway, in chich a cherry tree can be seen growing near the left margin of the image. Beyond the roadway, in the right background, stands an elaborate Gothic-revival drinking fountain, designed almost in the shape of a huge reliquary or shrine. This is encircled by a narrow pathway lined by benches and a wooden fence. Two young girls can be seen leaning on the fence, bearing tennis racquets in their hands. Beyond the fountain and the girls, a verdant landscape of rich grass and dense woodland stretches off into the distance. Taken in early summer.
