Description

"The textile industry developed during the 18th century with the introduction of mechanical methods of production. The demand for factory-made items also increased. At Garlogie Mill the 1830s beam engine supplemented the water-driven machinery for spinning and weaving wool, a business run by the Hadden family for nearly a century. The mill became one of the largest carpet manufacturers in Britain in the late 19th century. This is an iron paddle from a dye-bath at Garlogie Mill, Garlogie, Aberedeenshire. It dates from the 19th century."
