Description

Dry, bird egg. The egg was once in the French Royal collections, and is inscribed in black ink 'Pingouin', the French name for the Great Auk. The inscription was written by Monsieur Dufresne, keeper of the King's cabinet in Paris in the early nineteenth century. Data Book contains extract of advertisement for the forthcoming Stevens' Sale of the egg and Times article (dated 10/02/1909) regarding the outcome of the sale. Data Oologica contains full advertisement for the forthcoming Stevens' Sale of the egg.
