Brass stand with metal cased oil lamp on wooden base. Lamp can be removed form wooden base, revealing a small metal handle, has a lens at side to magnify the oil lamp light. Used as a landmark in the distance (up to 6 miles away) to mark the North-South line while using the transit telescope
